Melanie Foster was elected to the Board of Trustees in 2004 and again in 2014. Governor John Engler appointed Foster to the MSU Board of Trustees from 1991 to 1992 and to the Central Michigan University Board of Trustees from 1997 to 2004. She is currently chair of the Finance Committee and the Investment Advisory Subcommittee and serves on the board of the MSU Foundation. Foster was raised in the landscape and sod farming business in Flat Rock, Michigan. For 15 years she served as president and CEO of a commercial landscape company she built into a nationally acclaimed firm. Based in the Detroit area, the company had offices in four states. For 10 years Foster was president and CEO of a commercial landscape firm in Orlando, Florida, that specialized in theme park projects. She currently serves on the Board of Ele’s Place. Foster earned a bachelor’s degree in ornamental horticulture from MSU. She resides in East Lansing with her husband, John, and their three children.
